Dorset Country Wedding Venue, Shaftesbury
June 15th, 2009.As I am sure some of you know, my partner and I are tying the knot next June! We have been on the hunt for a wedding venue and have found some wonderful gems along the way, to suit all different budgets and styles. I thought I would share some of our finds with you, especially if you too are looking for your perfect wedding venue!
We love living in rural Dorset and were therefore looking for a Country Wedding Venue, which we could make our own. Springhead is an 18th century Grade 2 listed building, which has a wealth of history. Today Springhead is primarily a charity, it is North Dorset’s day and residential centre for creative and sustainable living – captivating and inspiring people of all ages, who return again and again to enjoy its all year round facilities.
Springhead is a very relaxed venue and you are able to hire the mill buildings and lakeside gardens for a whole weekend, making the most of your wedding! It has a camp-site on site and plenty of rooms for small children, which is ideal if you have lots of little ones travelling from afar to your special day! There is even an outside BBQ area where you could sit with loved ones around a camp fire during your wedding weekend.
Set in stunning lakeside gardens, in one of North Dorset’s most picturesque locations, Springhead is truly a magical place for a civil marriage ceremony and an intimate wedding reception of up to 50 guests, so perfect for the small wedding.
Unlike most hotels, the venue is exclusively yours to enjoy. In the 18th century Grade II listed mill there are three comfortable reception rooms for pre-drinks and socialising; a dining room for a sit-down menu or buffet; a separate dance area downstairs, as well as full kitchen facilities. It is perfect if you are planning a DIY wedding and are wanting to make your day personal by getting stuck in with decorating the venue and hiring your own caterers etc… Or to use as a blank canvas at let your imagination run free!
Springhead’s ‘piece de resistance’ is its spectacular gardens which are listed in the book ‘1001 Gardens You Must See Before You Die’ by Rae Spencer-Jones. The gardens provide many enchanting areas for those special once-in-a-lifetime photographs, including a delightful wooden bridge over seven springs (believed to be extremely lucky in ancient times) and an antique Italian rotunda beside the lake. The gardens are definately what attracted Scott and I to this venue and it was in our top three!
If you are considering this venue, do Get In Touch with us at Lisa Dawn Photography as we would love to photograph your wedding at this quaint venue! We look forward to hearing from you…good luck with the hunt for your wedding venue!
