Weddings at Minterne Magna House & Gardens
Nestling in the breathtaking setting of the Cerne Valley, Minterne’s tranquil surroundings are a photographer’s paradise. The East Terrace overlooking the lake is a perfect spot for your & your guests to relax with champagne and enjoy the stunning parkland landscape.
Minterne House & Gardens offer a complete wedding day in one place, whether you would like a Civil Ceremony or a sit-down dinner or for larger weddings. Exclusive use of the house & garden on your wedding day means that you & your guests can celebrate in style!
Civil Ceremonies
Civil Ceremonies at Minterne take place in the historic Trafalgar Hall with its barrel vaulted ceilings where the acoustics lend themselves very well to live music. Smaller, more intimate Civil Ceremonies can be held in Lady Digby’s Garden Room. The Trafalgar Hall is licenced for 160 and Lady Digby’s Garden Room is licenced for 60.
Wedding Reception
For guests of between 50 and 400 we suggest a drinks reception in the House followed by dinner and dancing in a marquee of your size and design in front of the house.
Alternatively for the more intimate small weddings of 50 guests and under we can accommodate a drinks reception and the dinner in either the Trafalgar Hall or the Tapestry Dining Room. Unfortunately we do not allow dancing in the house.
The Tapestry Dining Room
Richly decorated with its original 18th Century Churchill Tapestries (1710) which were presented by the States of Holland to General Charles Churchill when he was Military Governor of Brussels after the Battle of Ramillies, the Tapestry Dining Room is a fabulous location to hold a small wedding reception and dine in style. The ceiling in the dining room is by Sir James Thornhill, who did the painted hall at Greenwich. Up to 50 seated guests can be accomodated at round tables.
Gardens
When we visited the gardens we were pleasantly surprised and did not expect to find tropical palms and exotic shrubs in amongst miniature waterfalls and lakes. Sandy pathways lead to bridges over the river, a beautiful spot for a couple shoot with the Bride & Groom!
The Minterne Valley was landscaped in the manner of Capability Brown in the 18th Century. The gardens are laid out in a horseshoe below Minterne House, with a chain of small lakes, waterfalls and streams. They contain an unique collection of Himalayan Rhododendrons and Azaleas, with Spring bulbs, Cherries, Maples and many fine and rare trees; the garden is noted for its Autumn colouring.
